Character Info

Name: Malik Caesar
Fandom: Tales of Graces f
Canon Point: Just after the main story-arc, pre Lineage and Legacies

Personality: When one first meets Malik, they are introduced to a man with a boisterous sense of humor but with a sharp dedication that drives his every action. They meet a man who's kind, compassionate, world-wise, and charismatic and whose aura of authority is easy to fall in line behind. Malik certainly possesses all of those traits. He’s witty, quick with a ribbing jab or friendly teasing, but quick to get down to business when the situation calls for it. At the beginning of the game, we meet a man who’s dedicated his life to teaching children, guiding them in the ways of true knighthood, and urging them to develop their minds as well as their bodies to serve and protect the kingdom of Windor unconditionally.

His charming, boisterous outward demeanor makes him very popular with the ladies, and he has a reputation as somewhat of a heartbreaker. In fact, it's said he has a lady in every port. Women falling all over him or at least getting crushes on him is so common that his friend who runs Malik's favorite bar in Barona, the capital of Windor, simply shakes his head and asks if it happened again.

Many of his stories have a point, some lesson to be learned from them, though whether they’re true or not is often difficult to determine. One to spin a tall tale or embellish the truth for greater drama, Malik is a gifted story-teller so much so that his stories are known to his friends and those who look up to him. Everyone in the group looks up to him for guidance and support, and to affirm the decisions they've already made and he lives for that sort of thing. He takes great pride in the success of anyone he deems his pupil, and he tends to collect them like old hats. That being said, he also puts on a strong face for those under his guidance, seldom showing his own weakness or the pressure their idolatry puts on him.

His greatest pride is found in the success of his pupils, and watching them surpass him is something that gives his life meaning. He's not a young man, he's made his mistakes and the people who'd mattered the most to him have paid the ultimate price for them. He carries a certain degree of survivors guilt in regards to Kurt, to his fate, and for Malik's own choices that lead up to Kurt's eventual sacrifice. He feels that Kurt's death could have been avoided if he'd never let his own feelings of regret chase him away from the country he still loves and his only friends. He still pines over his lost Lorelia (Lenore?) also, and blames himself for her death, but mostly regrets not telling her how he really felt but instead letting her die thinking he didn't trust her. That yearning for what he let slip by and his guilt over what he allowed to happen in his past due to his own cowardice leads to an underlying degree of self-loathing that he turns outward into pushing his students, or people he perceives as such, to go further and to be all that they can be. He doesn't want them to repeat his mistakes, whatever that may be. Since Kurt's death, though, Malik has found a new determination, deciding to stop running and take responsibility for his actions. He's taken it upon himself to find a way to save Fendel, Kurt's dying wish, and he and Pascal are well on their way to doing so.

At the end of the day, Malik is a man with a good sense of humor, a stalwart, noble bearing, and a deep-running loneliness. He knows his running for so long means he's missed a lot of what life has to offer, and the last thing he wants is to see the next generation make the same mistakes, so he does his best to guide them, to nurture the passion he finds in them, and see that it flourishes so that they don't end up like him.

History: It's not that hard. We're just going to save the world. | It's nothing like it was back in the day.

Powers/Weaknesses: Malik is just as squishy as any human and doesn't have any special defenses related to his cryas artes to change that fact.

He is a Bladeranger, which means the following:
  • Bladerang: Malik's weapon of choice. It's a curved blade, like a boomerang (really), but using cryas artes (his world's version of magic) he's able to manipulate the weapon's path after being thrown, though this is affected by the weapon's weight and force of motion. It can't really be turned on a dime, though he can slash it quickly back and force at range.
  • Elemental cryas artes: Cryas artes are the manipulation of Eleth (energy in all living and non-living things) for a specific outcome. In brief, Bladerangers are combat mages. Malik has no shielding or healing artes, but can cast ice, air, earth, light, and darkness attacks, as well as artes that turn the ground into a sticky sludge that weakens everyone inside of it.
  • Low defense: Because of his range, whenever Malik throws his weapon, he's vulnerable to attack, and the blade isn't designed for defense when he's holding it, so if something gets in too close, he can be overwhelmed very easily. Also, when casting his artes, it's necessary for him to focus for several minutes to put the spell together, during which time he's also vulnerable to attack.
  • Before becoming a bladeranger, Malik was in the military, so has knowledge of firearms and swords.

Aside from combat skills, Malik can (presumably) sing, act, and shake a mean cocktail.
